Listening Lab

Hear it. Feel it.
Reflect it back.

The avatar tells you a short story or complaint. Your job isn’t to respond to it or fix it — it’s to reflect it back, accurately and with the feeling intact. An AI coach scores your accuracy, whether you named the emotion, and how much you paraphrased versus parroted.

What a good reflection covers

1

Capture the facts

What actually happened — who, what, when. Get the shape of it right.

2

Name the feeling

Don’t just repeat words back — say what they seemed to feel, out loud.

3

Validate, don’t just summarize

A perfectly accurate recap with zero acknowledgment of the feeling still isn’t active listening.

4

Use your own words

Paraphrase, don’t parrot — word-for-word repetition isn’t reflection.

Reflecting well

  • Lead with "It sounds like..." or "What I’m hearing is..." — that framing alone signals you were listening.
  • Resist the urge to jump straight to advice, or to top it with your own similar story.
  • Small factual misses matter less than the feeling landing — don’t stall chasing a detail you forgot.
  • One sentence of validation beats a long, accurate summary with none.
